"We started using PAR Excellence on several nursing units as a trial in 1998. We had been thinking about bar code technology, but that was going nowhere, in fact, the percentage of bar coded lowest unit of issue medical supply products was dropping. Our expectation was to reduce steps required to replenish supplies on nursing units and thereby reduce time involved and the chance for errors. We have since spread the PAR Excellence technology to 40 nursing units, and have seen a reduction of 6 FTE's and a significant reduction in the process steps involved in replenishment, from 20 to 8 process steps. Supplies are reordered without human intervention - PAR Excellence interfaces to our Material Management Information System which sends orders by specific nursing unit directly to our prime vendor. Supplies are delivered daily by the prime vendor in totes, specific to the nursing unit. The whole process has met every expectation that was in our 1997 vision."
